05. Porch

A porch is a structure attached to the entrance of a building, typically providing a covered area for shelter from the weather and serving as a transition space between the outdoors and indoors.


Here are some considerations related to porches: 

Ground floor area exceeding 3 square metres This question assesses the size of the porch on the ground floor, measured externally. If the ground floor area of the porch exceeds 3 square meters, it may have implications for planning permission and building regulations. 
Height above ground level If any part of the porch extends more than 3 meters above ground level, it could impact planning regulations and may require additional approvals. 
Proximity to property boundary If any part of the porch is within 2 meters of any boundary of the property, it might affect planning regulations, particularly regarding permitted development rights. 
Proximity to public footpath or road Similarly, if any part of the porch is within 2 meters of a public footpath or road, it could raise concerns regarding safety and may require adherence to specific regulations. 
Front entrance door This question pertains to whether the front entrance door between the existing house and the porch remains in place. Keeping this door intact may be necessary for structural integrity and maintaining the functionality of the entrance.
